Why AI assistants pick other businesses

They read Competitor 1's website, not Company A's

Across the 5 questions, 33% of answers draw on Competitor 1's website, mostly its home page; 21% on an industry site and 16% on ProntoPro. Company A's website wasn't used once for these questions.

Try it yourself: ask ChatGPT one of these questions and open the sources it cites.

The area isn't mentioned

In the pages AI read, the only location is the address. The province and region don't appear anywhere, yet all ten questions mention them. Competitor 1's home page title does.

Try it yourself: search your home page for the name of your area.

No prices, and reviews only on Google

The “Transparent pricing” section on the home page doesn't give a single price, not even a rough guide. On Google Maps, Company A has 5.0 stars and Competitor 1 has 4.2, but the pages AI read contain no customer reviews.

Try it yourself: look for a price on your website, even a rough one.

How we get there

The first 4 weeks

Correct details on the website and everywhere else, a complete Google listing, profiles on the sites AI assistants draw on (starting with ProntoPro), and the first pages for the questions where the company doesn't come up today.

Every month

New pages on the website, more presence on other sites, Google listing posts using job photos, and replies to reviews.

Every day

We put the questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews. The report shows how often Company A comes up, and how often its competitors do.

We don't promise rankings in AI answers. We do the work, and every month we show you the numbers.

How we measured it. Automated tracking in October 2026 on ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot, in Italian and for Italy. Each question was asked several times on each assistant; Google showed an AI Overview in 20 out of 30 searches. 10 questions, 80 answers. Answers vary from one search to the next, so this is a snapshot of that day. Company names, places and websites are hidden.
